• Standardized procedures serve as the legal mechanism for registered nurses and nurse practitioners to carry out tasks that would normally be considered part of medical practice. These procedures are developed through collaboration among nursing, medicine, and administration within the healthcare system in which they will be implemented. The interdisciplinary nature of this development process ensures accountability at multiple levels for the activities performed by registered nurses and nurse practitioners. Clinics and physicians’ offices must establish standardized protocols that allow registered nurses and nurse practitioners to perform specific functions. These nurses are only authorized to perform these duties outlined in the standardized procedure established by the healthcare organization and must provide proof of their experience, training, or education to fulfill the requirements of the function. 
• California is classified as a state with restricted practice for nurse practitioners. This means that their practice and licensing laws impose limitations on at least one aspect of nurse practitioners’ practice. According to state law, nurse practitioners must have continuous supervision, delegation, or team management from another healthcare provider to provide care (Kleinpell et al., 2023).  There is some push for this state to be a full practice state which will allow the nurse practitioner to be able to do more on their own. 

This practice is different from the state I live in because in my state we are a full practice state which means that we can do everything on our own. In states that grant full practice authority (FPA), regulations allow Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) to perform the following tasks: (a) assess patients; (b) make diagnoses; (c) request and interpret diagnostic tests; and (d) initiate and oversee treatments, including the prescription of medications and controlled substances, under the exclusive authority of the state nursing board (Kleinpell et al., 2023).
