You are committed to cultivating staff’s knowledge and skills related to fostering healthy development of the young children in their care and the families with whom they have formed partnerships. You are also deeply invested in developing staff leadership capacities. Your board concurs and also believes that Scribbles has a robust commitment to working for access, equity, and positive social change. They have asked you to work with the staff in developing this broader advocacy lens. You welcome the challenge and believe that an important precursor to supporting these goals includes exploring biases, because deep knowledge of one’s own values and beliefs is a precursor to actively and effectively working on access and equity as social justice issues. As a first step to this important work, you decide to create a blog for staff with initial posts that provide a research-based introduction to the power of bias, including how to recognize and mitigate it as well as information and strategies that support access, equity, and positive social change for young children, families, and the early childhood field. For this Assessment, complete the Supporting Access, Equity, and Positive Social Change Blog Post Template.CL2005_Assessment_BlogTemplate_To21C.docxCL3005_Resource_ScribblesDescription_To21C.doc

Will be submited via turn it in  Students will be provided a case scenario for an upcoming IEP meeting. Students will write a synopsis of the points they will cover during the IEP meeting to help the team make educationally relevant decisions for the IEP. The synopsis will be based on information related to IDEA (2004), the materials read related to an IEP, and your observations from your field experience. Terry is in the 5th grade and receiving special education services two hours a day for reading in a resource room setting. The remainder of his day is in the regular classroom where you are the General Education teacher. He is receiving instruction in all of the core curriculum areas at his grade level except reading. Decoding is difficult for him, but comprehension is not a big problem. He often works with peer support in the classroom completing science and social studies assignments. He is also able to take classroom tests orally with the assistance of a reader as an accommodation. Terry’s annual IEP meeting is scheduled to be held in 10 days and you will be in the role of the General Education teacher. What guide/notes will you take to the IEP meeting to ensure there is meaningful conversations that will support Terry’s progress. Remember to discuss SMART goals, accommodations, and supplementary aids and services.  In short, what will you bring to that IEP meeting to advocate for your student and ensure access to LRE and FAPE.

What do you hope to gain from this course (Instructional Strategy)? Who has been your favorite teacher, and why? How did this teacher display creative and critical thinking within the classroom? ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S DISCUSSION TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE.                                                      CLASSMATE’S POST I hope to gain some new and exciting ways to liven up classroom instruction as well as strategies for reaching some of those hard to connect to students.  Now that students are all back in the classroom 100% of the time, some are having a hard time adjusting, so project-based learning has become more appealing so I can get students moving, thinking, and communicating.  I have had some phenomenal teachers, but my favorite would have to be my Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Mosser.  She was always kind, let us learn through exploration, and constantly asked questions to make you think.  She encouraged conversation and helped guide our curiosity for the world.  There were no wrong answers in her class, just answers that were sometimes led in a different direction.  (Of course, I didn’t realize any of that at 5 years old, but looking back, she was the reason I played school every day as a small child.) Instructional Strategy Course Description  Specific instructional strategies can have an amazing impact on certain student audiences. Understanding the best way to reach a diverse classroom setting can make a huge difference in the learning experience for each learner. The alignment of the strategy with the classroom dynamics and content can lead to greater efficiency and effectiveness for the instruction. This contributes to the greater professional satisfaction for the teacher. There will be an intense comparison between the constructivist classroom and the traditional teacher-centered learning environment.
