Unit III Scholarly Activity  In this unit, you have gleaned multiple aspects related to effective lesson planning. However, proper planning is not limited to the classroom alone. Even some coaches utilize the foundational techniques encompassed within linear-rational planning to help win ballgames. Read the following scenario, and answer the questions that follow:  Coach Smith is the head high school football coach. He states that the team will use rushing offense and strong defense strategies to win the first game of the season. He describes the rushing plays and new defensive strategies to achieve this game plan. Coach Smith gives specific directions during practice, and he analyzes each player’s skillset to see where they need additional guidance and practice. During each practice, he seeks to focus on developing the critical offensive and defensive skills that each player needs to be congruent with the established game plan. Coach Smith assesses the performance and skillset of each player during practice and uses these observations to determine his starting lineup for offense and defense. Juan, a student in your class, has an  individualized educational plan (IEP), developed by a team consisting of  a special education teacher, a speech therapist, Juan’s parents, and  yourself. To smooth Juan’s transition into kindergarten, you call a  meeting with Juan’s parents and the IEP team. Watch the video of Marks  IEP meeting.  You are struck by the warm and informative nature of the team meeting and want to create a similar tone for your meeting.  Realizing that Juan’s parents are new to the school system, you decide  to create a pamphlet that will provide them (and eventually other  parents) with key information. You recall that Juan’s parents remarked  that they are still not sure what an IEP is and what it is supposed to  accomplish.
