You Must Cover Two Questions From ‘Legislative Branch’ And ‘Executive Branch’ Topics, Plus All The

you must cover two questions from "Legislative Branch" and "Executive Branch" topics, plus all the questions from the "Judicial Branch" in your original post.

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

  1. Some observers express concern about high reelection rates for incumbent members of Congress and have advocated for term limits as a way to formally remove longtime members of Congress. Why do you think these proposals for term limits are being advanced? Are there advantages to having long-serving members of Congress in office (e.g., when dealing with an entrenched bureaucracy)? What do recent election cycles say about the need for term limits? Are there other ideas for systemic reform such that challengers are placed on a more equal footing with incumbents?
  2. Given that most presidential powers are delegated and informal, the president’s ability to shape American politics is largely contingent on public support. To what extent do flagging political support or declining poll numbers hamper the president’s ability to lead Congress and the nation? Are there areas where this fact will be of little consequence? Discuss the suitability of public opinion polls for conferring a mandate on the president.
  3. Consider the positive and negative effects of profit in the context of several different areas of public bureaucracy. What is gained and what is lost by privatizing functions such as education policy, trash removal, criminal incarceration, and national defense? How might privatization affect the constitutional rights of citizens who deal with private companies?

EXECUTIVE BRANCH

  1. Why were the Founding Fathers so concerned about the amount of power vested in the President? It was the most debated part of the Constitutional Convention in 1787.
  2. Why were the foundering fathers also concern about how to elect the President? Please Note we don’t have a direct democracy, but an Electoral College. Therefore the political power is not necessarily granted to the masses.

JUDICIAL BRANCH

  1. Do you believe that judicial decisions will be affected if the diversity of the judges serving in the federal judiciary match the diversity of the population? Explain why or why not.
  2. Do you believe that 9 Supreme Justices interpreting the law for 330 million Americans is Democracy? Why or why not?
  3. Do you believe that by the founding fathers vesting all legislative powers in Congress did NOT create a true democracy, but a representative democracy or even a dictatorship of 535 members controlling 330 million Americans?

Students must post three responses (200+ words minimum for each post). Please see the syllabus for additional information on the requirements for discussion forums.

The Fact That Humans Are Formed In The Image Of God Has A Profound Influence

The Fact That Humans Are Formed In The Image Of God Has A Profound Influence

The fact that humans are formed in the image of God has a profound influence on the character of individuals and structure of the civilizations in which they live. All civilizations in one form or another have pursued the big questions of human existence:

      • Who is God?
      • What is a good human being?
      • What is truth, beauty, and goodness?

These questions require answers and, as Christians, we are called to integrate and examine all areas of our lives through our faith, including history. How can our faith inform our study of history? The study of history involves three levels or categories of analysis: Descriptive, Interpretative, and Evaluative. The Descriptive is the ability to describe an event. The Interpretative is the ability to interpret or analyze an event. The Evaluative is the ability to evaluate an event with the Truth of Scripture. You will ask of historical events and ideas: Was it good that it happened? Is it right? Does it conform to biblical Truth?

As you reflect upon your time in this course, apply these three areas of analysis to a topic we explored.  Sample topics could include (but are not limited to) the following:

      • Capitalism
      • Consumerism
      • Democracy
      • Freedom
      • Inequality
      • Nationalism
      • Poverty
      • Revivalism

      Assignment Description:

      • Select a historical figure or event covered in this course to discuss.
      • Your reflection should be 200-250 words long and address each area of historical analysis (i.e., descriptive, interpretive, and evaluative).  Make sure to view this videoLinks to an external site. to get a deeper understanding of these three areas of analysis and how to apply them when examining history.
      • As you progress through the three levels of analysis, reflect upon the cultural impact related to this topic and connect some of these patterns, ideals, and assumptions to your own life.
      • Make sure to incorporate Scripture in your writing.

What constitutes an appropriate role for the judiciary? Some people argue that courts have become too powerful and that judges legislate from the bench. What does it mean for a court to be activist? What does it mean for a court to show judicial restraint? Although conservatives have long complained about the activism of liberal justices and judges, in recent years liberals have pointed out that conservative judges and justices are now more likely to overturn precedents and question the power of elected institutions of government. Conservatives counter by saying they are simply returning to an older precedent that had been ignored by liberals. If both liberals and conservatives engage in judicial activism, what is the role of the concept of “activism” (perhaps judicial activism is just a term used to describe a court decision you disagree with)?

, you must cover all questions from "Domestic" and "Foreign" Policy topics.

          Domestic Policy

          1. If more than 60 percent of the federal budget is “mandatory spending,” what is left to cut? What economic goals do categories of mandatory spending support? What programs should be abolished or cut? Should any programs be expanded? If so, identify which ones and explain why they should be expanded by agencies such as the Red Cross. Comment.
          2. Social Welfare is the most debatable topic in American policy politics, yet many Americans are frustrated by those who sit and collect a check every month without any desire to improve themselves. I often wonder if welfare creates more poverty and laziness. Comment.
          3. Please watchBreaking Point: California's Homeless CrisisLinks to an external site.
Comment, What went wrong? Is Florida heading toward a crisis, and why?
          4. The long-term solvency of Social Security is widely believed to be in danger. Play the American Academy of Actuaries Social Security GameLinks to an external site.. Once you have "solved" the game. Share your select results with your classmates by discussing the following questions:
            • What options you found to be off limits, and why?
            • What options did you select to solve the social security problem? Explain your choices.
            • Note: When replying to your peers on their post for the "Social Security" activity – comment and ask questions about their choices

          Foreign Policy

          1. In recent years, the American armed forces have been called on to perform duties that are more humanitarian than militaristic, providing support after the Fukushima disaster, in addition to funds for drought victims in Ethiopia, COVID-19 vaccinations to countries who could not afford them, Ebola patients in West Africa, and earthquake victims in Nepal. Do we have an obligation to assist other countries experiencing a crisis, or should that be left to private relief agencies such as the Red Cross? Comment.
          2. The War on Terror has created a smaller faction’s terrorist groups than in the past. I wonder if we are making any inroads in the War on Terror or are, we creating more enemies against America.  Comment.
          3. How safe is the world today? Given all the recent Terror attacks are we making progress in defeating ISIS and other terrorist groups?  Comment.

You’ll focus on the role of the United States in World affairs. In the late 19th century, the United States not only sought to redefine itself as American but also to establish its place in the global political arena. Foreign policies paralleled those of many European nations, with a focus on imperialism and preserving foreign interests and markets, specifically in the Western hemisphere. It will be the United States positioning in the Spanish-American war that marks the beginning of its imperial power, with future expansions and political involvement in Latin America and the Pacific Ocean.  Reference must be within 5 years of current dateHIS202JournalAssignmentU3-4.pdf

You’ll be focusing on change and reform brought about as a result of the rapid social and economic changes of industrialization and urbanization. While the U.S. looked great from an outside perspective, with its rich flaunting their wealth and industry booming, it was riddled with the exploitation of the people and political corruption, thus earning the name the Gilded Age. This brought in a sense of moral obligation and led to a reform movement that swept across the nation, with organizations developing locally and nationally. This period of reform is known as the Progressive Era. HIS202JournalAssignmentU3-4.pdf
